E-Mobility, Battery and Energy: September 2025 Insights

Silicon anode production in the US, a target of 150,000 battery swapping cabinets in Vietnam, a new range record, Na-ion and BESS breakthroughs in Europe, updated taxes in Türkiye. How is all of this shaping the future of energy and e-mobility?

Türkiye

  • Taxes on passenger cars from outside the EU were updated: EV 30% with a minimum of 8,500 USD, PHEV 30% with a minimum of 7,000 USD, ICE and HEV 25% with a minimum of 6,000 USD. The US-specific 60% tax was removed.
  • The energy market regulator (EPDK) published 9 draft regulations for BESS and balancing.
  • ASPİLSAN is discussing a cooperation with Indonesia's IBC.

Europe

  • Phenogy commissioned a 1 MWh Na-ion BESS in Germany.
  • Eni and Seri Industrial started an 8 GWh per year LFP plant in Brindisi.
  • The Northvolt to Lyten transfer received ISP approval.
  • PGE in Poland launched a 262 MW / 981 MWh BESS.
  • Hithium signed a 2 GWh BESS master supply agreement with Solarpro in Eastern Europe.

Vietnam

  • A local operator targets 150,000 battery swapping cabinets by 2030.
  • EVN is running test operations on a 50 MWh pilot BESS.
  • The revised PDP8 confirmed a BESS target of 10 to 16.3 GWh.
  • Market: installation contracts of 200 MWh by the end of the year.

China

  • MIIT: export licences for EVs from 2026.
  • CATL: a new mine approval and the European launch of Shenxing Pro.
  • CATL 37.5% and BYD 17.8%, together more than 55% of the global market.

United States

  • Sila started automotive-scale silicon anode production.
  • DOE: a 625 million USD fund for coal plant modernization and BESS.
  • Georgia Power: a 500 MWh BESS tender.

Middle East

  • Ceer refreshed its brand image, with the first vehicle expected at the end of 2025.
  • Lucid Air set a Guinness record with 1,205 km.
  • Jordan opened ultra-fast DC charging.

Overall assessment

  • Türkiye: the new tax rule did not affect Tesla or BYD, which is investing locally. The advantage for TOGG is limited and its contribution is still unclear.
  • Europe: Na-ion and LFP investments are diversifying the supply chain.
  • Vietnam: two-wheeler swapping and BESS tests point to growth in 2026.
  • China: export licences act as a quality filter and mine approvals secure the upstream. The government is announcing extra incentives to keep its lead in battery technology.
  • United States: silicon anode production strengthens the domestic supply chain. It matters for the IRA and may bring a long-term competitive edge, especially for premium vehicles, extreme fast charging and ultra high energy density NMC.
  • Middle East: Ceer, Lucid and fast charging investments are growing the ecosystem.

Every region is clarifying its strategic position and looking for a way to stand out in the competition.
